October Letter to Parents - Bully Awareness Month

Date: October 1, 2016

Dear Parents:

The Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) considers bullying to be a serious issue.  We promote a safe and secure learning environment in which students are able to learn, grow, and develop.  The school also seeks to enlist the support and co-operation of all parents in the school community.

October is National Bully Awareness Month. Here at CSEE, we support a Bully Free School Environment. As part of our continued effort to provide awareness against bullying, we will implement a month of bully free activities. This will be beneficial to all students and staff at CSEE.

  1. October 5, 6, & 7 - Bully Awareness Workshop for Grades K-8

Bully Awareness Workshops will be held for all students in all grades to educate them about the harms and dangers that bullying causes, and to show students what they can do to prevent and stop bullying.

  1. October 10 – 14 - Make a Friend Week

This week we will focus on making new friends. Students will “Make a Friend” with a peer (or peers) they do not usually speak. This teaches students the importance of making new friends and including everyone in a group. Bullying excludes others, and we must strive to include everyone!

  1. October 17 – 21 - Stand Up for Others Against Bullying Week

This week we will focus on the theme “Stand Up for Others Against Bullying”.

Did you know students who experience bullying are more likely to find peer actions more helpful than an educator or self-actions? By teaching children to stand up for one another, they learn to not only help their classmates and the importance of bully prevention, but that they can always turn to their classmates for help and support.

  1. October 24 – 28 – Share a Kind Word Week

Students will participate in creating posters, creating positive messages on Post-It notes and handing them out to students at school, and share inspirational stories in the classroom.

  1. October 28 - Blue Shirt Day to Support Bullying Awareness

Students and staff will demonstrate their commitment to ending bullying by wearing a blue shirt.

With your help, we hope to foster a safe, educational school environment where all students learn of the harms of bullying, and the importance of stopping bullying and supporting its awareness.

Sincerely,
