ELL

ENL (English as a New Language) services are educational supports designed to help students who are learning English as an additional language. These services focus on developing students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. ENL programs typically provide specialized instruction to address language development, academic vocabulary, and the cultural understanding necessary for success in the classroom. The services may include one-on-one or small group instruction, pull-out programs, or collaborative teaching models where ENL teachers work alongside regular classroom teachers to support English language learners (ELLs) in content areas such as math, science, and social studies. The goal of ENL services is to ensure that ELLs can fully participate in their education and succeed academically while improving their English language skills.

In stand-alone instruction, ELLs leave the regular classroom to work with ENL teachers who focus on developing skills like vocabulary and conceptual understanding. This model is typically used alongside collaborative instruction for beginning-level learners who require additional service periods. The content covered during stand-alone sessions extends classroom learning, particularly in science and social studies, providing domain-specific support to meet the unique needs of ELLs.
